Coil Processing for Roofing, Cladding & PEB Manufacturers
Every profile sheet, purlin and cladding panel starts as slit coil. Roofing and PEB manufacturers run roll formers that consume strip continuously — and the slitting line that feeds them determines yield, edge quality on visible panels, and whether the roll former runs or waits.
Friend Engineering Works supplies the coil processing stage of India's roofing and pre-engineered building industry: slitting lines for GI and PPGI sheet stock, heavier-gauge lines for Z/C purlins, and CTL lines for flashing and accessory blanks.
The Roofing & PEB Material Flow
| Product | Material | Processing |
|---|---|---|
| Profile/roofing sheets | 0.3–0.8mm PPGI/GI | Slit to profile widths, coating-safe handling |
| Z & C purlins | 1.5–3.15mm GI/HR | Heavy-gauge slitting to purlin developed widths |
| Standing seam panels | 0.5–0.7mm PPGI/aluminium | Precision slitting, non-marking line |
| Flashings & trims | 0.4–0.8mm PPGI | CTL blanks for press brake |
| Decking sheets | 0.8–1.2mm GI | Slitting + CTL |
What Roofing Processors Need From a Line
- Coating-safe handling: PPGI paint film scratches are visible on every roof — covered rolls and careful strip path are mandatory
- Accurate developed widths: profile width errors compound through the roll former into cover-width disputes on site
- Fast width changeover: roofing jobs change profile constantly; knife setup time is production time
- Purlin-gauge capability: 3mm+ GI purlin stock needs an HR-class head, not a stretched light line

Frequently Asked Questions
Can PPGI (color-coated) coil be slit without damaging the paint?
Yes — with covered contact rolls, correct knife clearance and film/paper interleaving where the surface class demands it. PPGI lines are configured like stainless lines in terms of surface care. Slit edges expose the steel, which is normal and covered by the profile's overlap design.
What slitting width accuracy do roll formers need?
Typically ±0.2mm on developed width for roofing profiles, tighter for standing seam systems. Our lines hold ±0.1mm, which keeps cover width and rib geometry consistent across a roof.
Can one line handle both 0.4mm sheet stock and 3mm purlin coil?
A combination line covering roughly 0.4–3.15mm is a common PEB-industry build and we manufacture it — with the understanding that the head is sized for purlin gauge and fitted with fine-clearance setups for the light end. If volumes justify it, separate light and heavy lines yield faster changeovers.
