Cut to Length Line Price in India (2026): What Drives the Cost
Buyer Guide · Published 2026-08-14 · 8 min read · By Friend Engineering Works
The first question most buyers ask is also the hardest to answer in one number: what does a cut to length line cost in India? The honest answer is that a cut to length line is built to your specification, so the price follows the specification. This guide explains the indicative ranges and, more usefully, exactly what pushes the figure up or down.
Friend Engineering Works has quoted and delivered CTL lines since 1994, so these ranges reflect the real Indian market rather than a sales pitch.
Indicative Price Ranges
As a broad guide for the Indian market:
- Basic / light-gauge cut to length lines: approximately ₹20-40 lakhs
- High-speed, heavy-gauge and fully automated lines: approximately ₹75 lakhs to ₹3 crore
These are indicative bands only. Your actual price depends entirely on the specification below, which is why any serious manufacturer will ask for your requirement before quoting a figure.
What Actually Drives the Price
1. Material thickness and width. A line for thin CR coil up to a few millimetres costs far less than one engineered for heavy HR plate up to 20mm, or for wide coils approaching 2500mm. Heavier gauge means heavier levellers, bigger shears and stronger structures.
2. Line speed and output. Higher throughput needs more powerful drives, a flying shear instead of a stop-start cut, and tighter synchronisation. See flying shear vs stop-start CTL lines for how this affects both price and productivity.
3. Levelling quality. A basic roller leveller costs less than a precision or stretcher leveller. If your sheets must stay dead flat after cutting, the leveller is where you should invest.
4. Automation level. Manual coil loading and simple stacking are cheaper; servo feed, PLC + HMI control, automatic stacking, and coil cars add cost but pay back in labour, speed and consistency.
5. Material grade. Stainless steel and aluminium need specific handling and tooling, which can affect cost. Our CTL material guide explains why.
How to Get an Accurate Quote
A price without a specification is meaningless. To quote your line accurately we need your material and grade, coil width and thickness range, required sheet lengths, output target and power supply. The full list is in our cut to length line RFQ checklist.
Price Is Not the Only Cost
A cheaper line that runs slower, needs more operators, or produces off-tolerance sheets costs more over its life. Weigh purchase price against throughput, accuracy, uptime and after-sales support. Our thoughts on that trade-off are in how to choose the right cut to length line.
