Cut to Length Lines for Roofing & Cladding Sheet Manufacturers

Applications · Published 2026-09-04 · 6 min read · By Friend Engineering Works

Roofing and cladding is one of the biggest applications for cut to length lines in India, and it has demands that a general-purpose line may not meet. If you produce profiled roofing sheets, plain sheets, or cladding panels, here is what matters when you specify a cut to length line.

The Materials: GI, GP and Colour-Coated Coil

Roofing and cladding is dominated by galvanised (GI/GP) and pre-painted (colour-coated) coil. These materials bring specific requirements:

  • Surface protection. The coating cannot be scratched or marked as it runs through the line, so decoiler, leveller rolls and stacker all need to handle coated material gently.
  • Consistent flatness. A visible roof or wall panel shows every ripple, so the leveller specification matters more here than almost anywhere.

Our lines process CR, HR, stainless, tinplate and aluminium; for coated-coil handling specifics, discuss your exact coil with our team.

Length Accuracy and Repeatability

Roofing sheets are sold to length, often in long runs of identical sheets, then sometimes long custom lengths. You need a line whose servo feed holds length accurately batch after batch - on our lines, to approximately plus or minus 0.5mm. Consistency over a 2,000-sheet run matters as much as a single accurate cut. More on this in cut to length line accuracy.

Throughput

Roofing is a volume business with thin margins, so line speed and quick length changeovers directly affect profitability. For high-volume roofing production, a flying shear line that cuts on the move avoids the stop-start cycle and lifts output significantly.

Long Sheets and Stacking

Roofing often means long sheets. Confirm the line's maximum sheet length suits your product (ours cut from 500mm up to 6000mm, customisable) and that the stacker handles long sheets without them bowing or sliding.

Should You Pair It With a Slitting Line?

Many roofing producers also need narrower coil for downstream profiling, which is a slitting line job. If you are planning both, read cut to length line vs slitting line to see how the two fit together.

Built for Indian Roofing Producers

Friend Engineering Works has supplied coil processing lines to roofing, cladding and construction-material manufacturers across India since 1994. We size the line to your coil, your sheet range and your output.
