How Does a Cut to Length Line Work?
A Cut to Length (CTL) line is an automated metal processing system that converts coiled metal into flat, precisely cut sheets. The line combines decoiling, leveling, measuring, cutting, and stacking operations into one continuous process. Understanding the CTL process helps optimize sheet quality and production efficiency.
Coil Loading & Decoiling
The coil is loaded onto the decoiler. The strip is threaded through the line and fed at controlled speed into the leveling section.
Straightening & Leveling
The strip passes through a precision multi-roll leveler that removes coil set, crossbow, and internal stresses. This ensures flat, stress-free sheets.
Length Measuring
A servo-driven feeder with encoder feedback precisely measures and feeds the exact sheet length required. Accuracy of ±0.5mm is achieved.
Shearing / Cutting
A rotary shear or flying shear cuts the strip to length. Flying shears cut without stopping the line for higher production speeds.
Sheet Conveying
Cut sheets travel on a conveyor table to the stacking area. Magnetic or vacuum systems hold sheets flat during transport.
Automatic Stacking
